The Labour Force Survey for December showed that over 1,00,000 people were hired in Canada Jobs, which resulted in an employment rate increase of 0.5 percentage points. “There is healthy growth in the average hourly wages of employees — which has remained above 5% for seven consecutive months and is up 5.1% year-over-year (YOY),” it further revealed.
Canada Jobs: The following industries made the most hires last month:
- Construction: This sector saw a 2.3% increase in employment in December 2022, adding up to 35,000 new jobs.
- Logistics and transportation: By adding 29,000 jobs, the transportation and warehousing sector also saw an increase in employment of 3%.
- Culture, entertainment, and information: This industry saw an increase of 3.1 percent or 25,000 new jobs.
- Technical, scientific, and professional services: As the number of people employed in this industry increased by 23,000, employment in this sector increased by more than 1% (+1.3%).
- Services for lodging and eating: This sector now employs 13,000 people, an increase of 1.2 percent.
- Administration of the Public: Between November and December of 2022, there has been an increase in employment in this sector of 11,000 jobs or 0.9%.
According to data from the Labour Force Survey, total employment in the healthcare and social assistance sector decreased by 17,000 jobs or 0.7%.

Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Saskatchewan are the areas where employment significantly increased.
For instance, employment increased by 42,000 jobs (+0.5%) last month in Ontario, while employment increased by 25,000 jobs (+1.0%) in Alberta.
The Labour Force Survey also mentioned that private-sector employment is the reason for Canada’s employment boom. In December, 112,000 more people worked in private-sector jobs in Canada.
Jobs In Canada, employment also increased for a variety of age groups. In the age group of 15 to 24, employment increased by 69,000 (+2.7%), and employment also increased for those 55 and older.
The government of Canada said on Tuesday that it increased immigration to combat a tight labor market and that more than 437,000 foreigners were granted permanent residency last year, breaking a previous record.
