New York: International student enlistment in the US last year showed a substantial increment with India sending more students/understudies compared to China in 2022, says a US migration report.

The number of students from China and India made Asia the most popular continent of origin, as reported in the annual report of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The report stated, “Comparable to the drop from the calendar year 2020 to 2021, China sent fewer students in 2022 than in 2021 (-24,796), while India sent more students (+64,300).” India vs nz

SEVIS Data on Non-Immigrant Students in the US:

In comparison to 276,723 active exchange visitors in the country in 2022, compared to 240,479 active exchange visitors in 2021-a 15% increase.

In the calendar year 2022, the total number of records for active F-1 and M-1 students in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) was 1,362,157. This was an increase of 10.1% from the calendar year 2021 and the highest number of records since the calendar year 2019.

SEVIS is an online system utilized by the Department of Homeland Security to oversee and organize data on non-immigrant students who have come to the United States primarily to pursue their studies.

The number of global understudies selected at kindergarten through grade 12 (K12) schools increased by 7.8 percent from 2021 to 2022 (+3,887).

Similar to the year 2021, no K-12 schools hosted more than 700 international students in 2022.

In addition, according to the report, there were 117,301 pre- and post-completion optional practical training (OPT) students in 2022 who reported working for an employer and had an employment authorization document (EAD), a 1.4% increase from 115,651 in 2021. India vs Australia
