Preparing for a US Student Visa Interview: Expert Tips for Success
As the Fall session approaches, students who are heading to universities in the United States are finalizing their student visa applications. The US Consulates in India are set to open the first batch of student visa appointments by mid-May.
Ben Arterburn, former US diplomat, and director of consular affairs at Argo Visa, a US-based firm, shared valuable tips with the Times of India on excelling in the student visa interview.
Arterburn emphasized that the initial visa interview presents the best opportunity for the candidate. Attempting a second interview can create a negative impression due to a prior refusal.
He advised against remaining silent during the interview, as it is crucial to actively engage with the interviewer. Students should confidently introduce themselves, take control of the conversation, and emphasize their strengths, such as their financial status or academic qualifications.
Furthermore, Arterburn highlighted the importance of demonstrating expertise in the chosen field of study. However, the most crucial aspect students must convey during the interview is the reasoning behind their decision to pursue the specific course in the US.
By following these expert insights, students can enhance their chances of success during the US student visa interview.
