The government of Canada provides qualified doctoral students with Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships so that they can pursue postgraduate and research programs. More than twenty Canadian universities are eligible for the scholarship program.
Eligibility Of Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
Citizenship: Students from other countries who are presently residing in Canada on a student visa and Canadian citizens
Nomination: must be approved under the Vanier CGS quota and submitted by only one Canadian university.
Only a fixed number of applications are given the scholarship.
Area of Research: Health research, research in the social sciences and the humanities, and research in the natural and/or engineering sciences
Academic Level: pursuing a first doctoral degree in Canada, including a joint undergraduate/graduate research program similar to an MD/Ph. D., PhD/DVM D., JD/Ph. D.).
Enrolment: intend to enroll full-time in doctoral studies and research during the summer or academic year following the results.
Time Frame of Study: Not required to have worked for more than 20 months.
Academic Rating: must have finished their last two years of full-time study with a first-class average or the equivalent.
Other Factors: Prior receipt of a doctoral-level fellowship or scholarship from NSERC, CIHR, or SSHRC is not required.
Note: Under the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, only the Ph.D. portion of a combined degree is eligible for financial support.
