How IELTS tests work?
The IELTS is an English language proficiency test. Each module consists of four parts – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Speaking test is conducted on a different day either one week before or one week after the main exam whereas listening, reading, and writing are conducted on the same day. There are two modules to choose from – IELTS Academic or IELTS General.
IELTS allows test takers to choose the mode of taking the exam. You can take the IELTS exam either by Computer Based Test (CBT) or by Pen and Paper Based Test (PNP). Among both modes, there is a myth that one is easier than the other due to its level of difficulty. This is solely the student’s choice based on convenience, so presenting one’s skills won’t be hindered. As a result, you can choose what suits you best. Additionally, it shows you how the actual process works
You will be able to access multiple FREE mock tests along with answers and explanations that look like a test paper.
Comparing the two, there are a few differences
The candidate is marked on a 9 Bands scale for each module in IELTS, and the final band score is calculated based on the average of all the bands in IELTS. On the final test day, IELTS marks your performance as a band score on a scale of 1 to 9, 1 being the lowest and 9 being the highest. In the Overall Band Score, the average marks of four sections are rounded to the nearest whole or half band. IELTS Exam sections are weighted equally.
IELTS Academic is for students planning to study abroad, while IELTS General is for those planning to migrate abroad, work there and become permanent residents. There are four sections in each of these modules – listening, reading, writing, and speaking, unless one has an exemption due to a disability. The Listening and Speaking tests are the same for Academics and General Training, but the Reading and Writing tests are different.
